China on Monday blacklisted four Japanese government defense research institutes and imposed tighter export restrictions on dozens of other Japanese entities, escalating a months-long campaign to limit Tokyo’s access to Chinese-origin dual-use goods.

The Ministry of Commerce added 20 entities on the export control list and another 20 — including Mitsui E&S Co., drone maker Terra Drone Corporation, nuclear fuel processors, and multiple units of OKI Electric Industry — on a watch list requiring enhanced licensing scrutiny. Both actions take effect immediately.

The authorities would implement “stricter end-user and end-use reviews on exports of dual-use items by entities on the watch list,” the ministry said.

“Exports involving Japanese military users, military uses, and any other end-user uses that contribute to enhancing Japan’s military strength will not be approved,” according to the statement.

In February, China prohibited exports of dual-use items to 20 Japanese entities that Beijing said supplied Japan’s military.

In a statement Monday, a spokesperson for the commerce ministry said Japan had shown no remorse since the February listings and had instead “accelerated” its push toward what Beijing characterizes as “new-style militarism” — including deploying offensive weapons and launching offensive missiles overseas.

The U.S. has launched an investigation into Germany’s pharma policies over what it referred to as “persistent underpayment” for medicines as the European country looks to limit spiraling healthcare costs, including spending on drugs.

“President Trump has made clear that American patients should not be shouldering a disproportionate share of global pharmaceutical research and development,” said U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in a statement late Thursday.

“I am particularly concerned with news that Germany is fast-tracking legislation that would further reduce its spending on innovative pharmaceuticals,” he said, calling it “a serious step backwards.”

In April, Germany proposed overhauling its health insurance system to reduce pressure on public finances, as health spending has increased substantially in recent years.

It introduced a range of cost-saving measures, including higher discounts for insurance funds from the pharma industry, prompting numerous drugmaker executives to warn that they might withdraw or delay new medicines in the country.

The draft legislation is currently going through parliamentary processes.

The U.S. investigation was initiated under Section 301 of the Trade Act, which allows unilateral action against countries with unfair practises that burden U.S. commerce.

Greer said that U.S. trading partners must pay their fair share to fund research into new medicines, and that the investigations come after months of discussion with German partners.

The Trump administration last year introduced the so-called Most Favored Nation drug policy, or MFN, that ties the prices of medicines in the U.S. to lower ones abroad.

The German Health Ministry didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Real estate investor Grant Cardone is positioning his Cardone Capital to challenge the traditional real estate investment trust (REIT) sector by integrating Bitcoin directly into large-scale multifamily deals. With roughly $5 billion in real estate assets under management across about 15,000 units, Cardone claims the hybrid approach can deliver superior returns while onboarding new investors to Bitcoin.

In a recent interview at Consensus 2026, Cardone laid out his strategy for disrupting the multi-trillion dollar Realestate Investment Trust sector, also known as REITs, companies that own, operate, or finance income-producing real estate. Established under U.S. law in 1960, they must distribute at least 90% of taxable income as dividends to shareholders, providing investors with liquidity and yields without direct property ownership. According to Cardone, publicly traded REITs and the broader industry control over $4.3–4.5 trillion in U.S. real estate assets.

Cardone highlighted a key structural constraint during his Consensus Miami 2026 appearance: traditional REITs like Camden, AvalonBay, and others “can never ever hold Bitcoin on their balance sheet.” This limitation, rooted in the industry’s 1960s-era rules focused on real estate assets and income, creates what he calls a “glitch” in the market, a competitive opening.

Cardone’s Bitcoin Origin and Hybrid Strategy
Cardone first encountered Bitcoin when he was paid 115 BTC for a speaking engagement in Las Vegas, which he still holds. He has since evolved this into a hybrid model at Cardone Capital. Rather than tokenizing real estate on the blockchain, the firm acquires institutional-quality, cash-flow-positive multifamily properties at significant discounts and pairs them with Bitcoin inside a dedicated LLC.

In one prominent example, Cardone Capital purchased a 366-unit property at 101 Via Mizner in Boca Raton from a Blackstone-related lender for $235 million in cash. The property, described as irreplaceable and valued at approximately $400 million replacement cost, was combined with about $100 million in Bitcoin, creating a total ~$335 million investment vehicle.

Replacement cost refers to the expense of building a comparable property today. Cardone targets assets trading at significant discounts to this benchmark. Instead of simply capturing the real estate discount, the firm allocates Bitcoin to “stuff it into the discount gap” and move the overall cost basis of the property higher. In the Boca deal, Cardone says this structure generated a $50 million tax write-off.

Commercial real estate of this sort should provide stable cash flow. Cardone suggests the Boca property is expected to return 4% per year, alongside depreciation benefits, and periodic refinancing opportunities every 7–10 years. Bitcoin adds upside potential and liquidity characteristics. He stated, “We believe by combining real estate and Bitcoin and having time… I’ll end up with somewhere between…

The FBI disrupted an alleged plot targeting Sunday’s UFC cage-fight event at the White House, FBI Director Kash Patel said Tuesday. Newly unsealed court documents detailed a plan investigators said involved explosive-laden drones and shooters targeting crowds fleeing the event.

Tycen Proper, a 19-year-old Ohio man, has been charged with multiple felony counts in connection with the alleged plot, including conspiracy to commit an offense against the U.S. and attempted murder of an officer or employee of the country, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Tuesday.

The complaint was signed June 12, two days before President Donald Trump hosted the UFC showcase on the White House South Lawn as part of his 80th birthday celebration.

A preliminary search of Proper’s iPhone revealed encrypted group chats that “laid out detailed plans to conduct an attack in Washington, D.C. with several unidentified confederates,” according to the complaint.

Investigators said the alleged plan involved flying small drones carrying explosives near the UFC arena, forcing spectators and “high value targets” to evacuate. Members of the group would then shoot at the fleeing crowd, according to court documents.

“According to Proper, this attack was designed to ‘jumpstart’ a revolution in the United States,” an FBI affidavit said.

Patel revealed the alleged plot in a post on X Tuesday morning.

“On June 10, FBI and our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 event in Washington, D.C. involving individuals outside of the National Capital Region,” Patel wrote in the post.

Patel said the FBI, the Justice Department and other law enforcement partners moved quickly in a multistate operation, putting “multiple individuals” in custody and stopping “allegedly planned attacks” before they were carried out.

Investigators said the case began when Proper’s mother contacted law enforcement June 10 out of concern over her son’s conduct, including firearms purchases and online communications with certain individuals, according to the complaint.

When law enforcement went to the family’s home in Ohio, they found thousands of rounds of ammunition, an assault-style rifle and a bullpup rifle that had been purchased June 5 and painted with an American flag, according to court documents. Proper’s family voluntarily turned over the equipment, investigators said.

Proper had allegedly joined a TikTok messaging group called “Vanguard of the Old” in March, according to the complaint. Members of the…

The missiles fired Sunday night at 11 p.m. ET were successfully intercepted and no U.S. personnel were harmed, CENTCOM said in an X post.

“U.S. Central Command remains vigilant and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire,” the post said.

The attacks followed “self-defense strikes on Iranian radar and command and control sites for drones” that the U.S. said it conducted over the weekend in response to prior Iranian aggression.

The kinetic exchanges between the U.S. and Iran came as Israel ramps up its military offensive in Lebanon against the Iran-backed militia Hezbollah.

Iran has repeatedly said that Israel’s attacks in Lebanon constitute violations of its ceasefire with the U.S., which began in mid-April as a two-week pause and was later extended indefinitely by President Donald Trump.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an X post Monday morning said, “The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

“Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The US and Israel are responsible for the consequences of any violation,” he wrote.

It was a bumpy week for gold and silver prices, which took a break from responding to geopolitical tensions to react to the latest US Federal Reserve interest rate decision.

As was widely expected, the central bank left rates unchanged at 3.5 to 3.75 percent. However, the move came with the highest number of dissents since 1992.

Gold finished the week at about US$4,615 per ounce, down from nearly US$4,700 at the start of the period; silver fared better, closing at US$75.27 per ounce, not far from where it began.

Attracting more attention that rates was the Fed leadership transition. Jerome Powell’s term as chair expires on May 15, meaning that this week’s meeting was likely his last in the position.

While there’s been some uncertainty about whether nominee Kevin Warsh will be okayed to take over, this week he was voted through by the Senate Banking Committee. Now all that’s left is for the Senate to approve him. That’s expected to happen the week of May 11.

But even if that goes smoothly, Powell won’t be out of the picture quite yet.

He said this week that he plans to retain his position on the Fed’s board, marking the first time a chair has stayed on the board as a governor since 1948.

Powell’s decision stems from concerns about Fed independence. US President Donald Trump has been critical of the central bank, and Powell in particular, for not lowering rates as quickly as he would like — Trump has implied that Warsh will fall in line with what he wants.

Powell has also been facing a Department of Justice criminal investigation that he believes was motivated by rate decisions. Although it was dropped this week, he indicated that he won’t leave his Fed board position until it is “well and truly over with finality and transparency.”

These circumstances are raising questions about what Warsh will really be like as Fed chair, and the experts I spoke to this week were keen to share their thoughts.

Lynette Zang of Zang International said she’s skeptical about how much will change:

“I was listening to Kevin Warsh in front of the Senate Banking Committee, and he said that he had a different definition for price stability. And so my ears perked up, right? Because the current definition of central bank price stability is inflation moving slow enough that the public does not change their spending patterns. Rather, they simply take on more debt to attempt to sustain their standard of living.

“So when he said, ‘I have a different definition,’ I was very keen on, what is that definition? And what he said was, ‘That prices move slowly enough that people don’t notice.’ It seems like the same definition to me.”

Gareth Soloway of VerifiedInvesting.com also weighed in on comments Warsh has made, saying his thoughts on how to measure inflation are worrying:

“When he was testifying in front of Congress for his confirmation hearing, he (talked) about changing the way inflation is is monitored, or how the numbers come out. In other words, what he was saying is that what ……

Block’s Bitcoin Product Lead Miles Suter took the Nakamoto Stage at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas Tuesday morning with a clear message: bitcoin must circulate, not just sit still.

“If Bitcoin doesn’t function as peer-to-peer cash, it loses the quality that makes it transformational,” Suter said, framing Block’s entire product push around the idea that Satoshi built the network so “the entire world could operate on a freer, fairer financial system.”

The presentation came one day after Block rolled out a wave of bitcoin-focused product announcements on April 27, making it one of the most aggressive product offensives the company has staged at a single conference.

Merchant adoption hits 800,000 — and climbing

Suter cited live traction as proof the strategy is working. Block now has more than 800,000 Square businesses with bitcoin payments auto-enrollment enabled, and a new business is activating the feature every eight seconds, he said on stage.

The figure builds on Block’s March 2026 decision to automatically enable bitcoin payments for eligible U.S. Square sellers, a rollout that reached millions of merchants in one move. Suter also unveiled a tap-to-pay bitcoin feature, saying Block is on track to make bitcoin payments at the point of sale as seamless as Apple Pay.

The system uses NFC hardware and the Lightning Network for settlement, requires no QR codes, and carries zero processing fees through 2026.

Suter outlined a future-state income loop: workers receive their paycheck in Cash App, convert it to bitcoin, and sweep those funds into self-custody. That vision ties directly into Block’s upgraded product stack announced Monday.

Cash App now offers auto-conversion of peer-to-peer payments into bitcoin, a 5% Bitcoin Back rewards program at Square merchants, and bitcoin withdrawal limits raised fivefold to $10,000 per day and $25,000 per week.

On the custody side, Block debuted a new Bitkey hardware wallet with a built-in touchscreen and 2-of-3 multisig architecture, removing the need for seed phrases and tying transaction verification to the device screen rather than an external system.

“Bitcoin only works if no single company controls it,” Suter said.

Block’s proof of reserves: $2.2 Billion in BTC

Block also published its Q1 2026 Proof of Reserves on April 27, disclosing total holdings of 28,355.05 BTC worth approximately $2.2 billion. Of that total, 19,357.16 BTC — roughly $1.5 billion — belonged to customers, while the company’s corporate treasury held 8,997.89 BTC valued at approximately $696 million. The reserves dashboard uses on-chain cryptographic signatures for public verification, and Block said the holdings reflect active control rather than historical…

Emyria Limited (ASX: EMD) (“Emyria”, or the “Company”), a leader in innovative mental health treatments, is pleased to announce the launch of its Empax Global Partnership Program, a new services platform enabling international drug sponsors to access Emyria’s established clinical delivery infrastructure.

Key Highlights:

Emyria establishes dual-revenue model with launch of global services platform – Introduces high-margin, sponsor-funded revenue opportunity alongside existing reimbursed treatment programs, marking a strategic global inflection point.

Already operational with North American based sponsor Psyence Group (CSE: PSYG and OTCQB: PSYGF) – Demonstrates immediate commercial application and validates Emyria as a trusted clinical delivery partner.

US Government moves to fast-track next-generation mental health treatments – The US confirms Executive Order for policy action to accelerate research into psychedelic drugs with a view to expediting medical treatments for serious mental illness1.

Solving a critical global bottleneck in therapy rollout – Clinical delivery capacity, not drug development, is emerging as a key constraint in next-generation mental health treatments.

Scarce clinical infrastructure built over multiple years – Emyria’s national network, trained workforce and governance capability are difficult and time-intensive to replicate.

High-margin, capital-light services model supported by strong inbound demand – Growing engagement from global CROs and drug sponsors expected to drive revenue opportunity and scalable expansion.

The launch represents a strategic inflection point, positioning Emyria as a global clinical delivery platform, and establishes a dual-revenue model combining existing reimbursed treatment programs with high-margin, sponsor-funded services.

The Program provides a structured pathway for drug sponsors and clinical research organisations (CROs) to deliver complex treatment protocols through Emyria’s Empax network, supporting both clinical trial execution and post-approval commercial rollout.

Global Inflexion Point Driving Immediate Demand

More than 50 psychedelic-assisted therapy programs are currently in global clinical development2, targeting large and under-served patient populations across PTSD, treatment- resistant depression and other serious mental health conditions.

Unlike traditional pharmaceuticals, these therapies require:

Long-duration treatment sessions

Purpose-built clinical environments

Highly trained, multidisciplinary teams

As a result, clinical delivery capacity—not drug development—is emerging as a primary constraint to global rollout.

This dynamic is being reinforced by accelerating government and regulatory momentum, particularly in the United States where recently announced Executive Order to enact policy initiatives are focused on accelerating research on psychedelic drugs with a view to expediting medical treatments for serious mental illness1.

A Scarce and Differentiated Clinical…

On Monday, TRON announced a significant expansion of its AI Fund, increasing its allocation from $100 million to $1 billion, signaling a major strategic shift toward the emerging agentic economy. This move reflects a growing conviction that the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology will require a new generation of financial infrastructure built specifically for autonomous systems.

The expanded fund will focus on investments and acquisitions of early-stage companies developing core components of this ecosystem. TRON is prioritizing areas considered foundational to machine-driven economic activity, including agent identity systems, stablecoin-based payment rails, tokenized real-world assets, and developer tooling for autonomous financial systems.

The underlying thesis is clear: as AI agents become increasingly capable of participating in economic processes, they will require programmable, permissionless infrastructure to transact, manage assets, and verify identity without reliance on traditional intermediaries. Blockchain networks, particularly those with established liquidity and scalability, are positioned to support this transition.

By scaling its capital commitment tenfold, TRON is not only reinforcing its early positioning in this narrative but also aiming to play a central role in shaping the infrastructure layer of a rapidly evolving digital economy.

TRON Doubles Down on AI–Blockchain Convergence Thesis

The announcement further emphasizes that this expansion builds on a thesis first outlined in 2023: the convergence of AI and blockchain will create structural demand for programmable, permissionless financial infrastructure. What began as an early conviction has now evolved into a strategic commitment, with TRON positioning itself for a future where AI agents actively participate in the global economy.

This vision is anchored in three core theses. First, stablecoins are the most viable form of money for agent-to-agent commerce. While AI systems cannot access traditional banking rails, they can operate digital wallets, making stablecoins the default settlement layer. Second, stablecoins also serve as the primary payment infrastructure for individuals and small teams, particularly as AI enables lean, high-efficiency operations without reliance on intermediaries.

Third, tokenized equity is positioned as the ownership layer of the agentic economy. As AI agents manage and transact value, they require programmable, divisible, and continuously transferable ownership structures—capabilities inherent to tokenized assets.

TRON’s positioning is reinforced by scale. With over 370 million user accounts, more than $21 billion in daily transaction volume, and over $85 billion in circulating USDT, the network already operates one of the largest stablecoin liquidity layers….

Two men from Pennsylvania admitted to repeatedly traveling from Philadelphia to Minneapolis in an effort to defraud Minnesota’s Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program, prosecutors announced. The men allegedly defrauded approximately $3.5 million from the program and used artificial intelligence to create false records.

The two men, identified as Anthony Waddell Jefferson, 37, and Lester Brown, 53, allegedly set up businesses in Minnesota and enrolled as HSS providers. The men were allegedly supposed to provide housing consulting, transitioning and sustaining services to qualifying individuals.

The state’s HSS program, which was officially launched in July 2020, aims to help people with disabilities, including seniors and those with mental illnesses or substance abuse issues, find and maintain housing. The Justice Department previously said the program “had low barriers to entry and minimal records requirements for reimbursement.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi reacted, “Criminal fraud not only robs taxpayers — it shatters trust in our institutions. Under President Trump’s leadership, today’s convictions are just the beginning. Our prosecutors will work tirelessly to unravel criminal fraud schemes and charge their perpetrators in Minnesota and across the country.”

Jefferson and Brown are accused of stealing approximately $3.5 million from HSS for services they falsely claimed to have provided to around 230 Medicaid beneficiaries. The men each pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and face up to 20 years in prison, the DOJ said.

“Minnesota will no longer be a haven for fraud under our watch,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said. “The Justice Department has been investigating billions in taxpayer fraud across the country and has already successfully convicted 66 individuals and counting in Minnesota. The collaboration between the Criminal Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is a prime example of how we restore justice and public trust, while holding criminal fraudsters accountable.”
