Overview

Metals.io is a unified real-world asset platform built on Tezos infrastructure, designed to simplify access to physically backed commodities through blockchain tokenization. It enables investors to gain exposure to uranium, gold, and strategic metals through a single digital interface, reducing fragmentation, limited accessibility, and opacity traditionally associated with commodity markets.

The platform builds on the foundation of tokenized uranium and expands into a broader multi-asset framework aligned with growing global demand for critical resources. Uranium remains central due to its role in nuclear energy and long-term decarbonization efforts, while gold continues to function as a global store of value in periods of macroeconomic uncertainty.

Alongside these core assets, Metals.io incorporates exposure to strategic and rare earth metals that are increasingly vital to modern industrial systems. These materials underpin semiconductors, electrification, defense technologies, and AI-driven infrastructure, reflecting their growing importance in global supply chains.

By integrating blockchain infrastructure with real-world commodity markets, Metals.io enables fractional ownership, real-time settlement, 24/7 global trading access, and programmable financial utility. The platform represents a streamlined gateway to tokenized commodities that are central to both energy transition and technological advancement.

As of June 2026, the company has also purchased and tokenized cobalt and nickel, allowing investors to own the metals through xCo and xNi tokens. This allows for easier access, ownership and trading of both metals, which are utilized in high-demand sectors such as electric vehicles, battery storage systems and clean energy technologies.

Chandrasekaran said he would no longer seek another term.

Tata Group has made some of the “largest capital commitments” under Chandrasekaran’s leadership, which in the latest letter to shareholders he described as the building blocks for India’s road to becoming a developed country by 2047.

Tata Sons, the holding company of Tata Group, also acquired beleaguered national carrier Air India in 2022, started iPhone production after buying Wistron and Pegatron, reportedly overtaking Taiwanese company Foxconn’s India unit to become the country’s largest Apple supplier.

In 2024, it unveiled plans to set up India’s first semiconductor plant worth $11 billion in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.

All these initiatives by the slat-to-steel conglomerate that also owns luxury automaker JLR are in the early investment cycles and are not churning profits.

Boardroom tensions

The current “struggle” between Tata Trusts and Tata Sons arises from capital allocation to loss-making businesses, Ruchir Khare, chief investment officer at portfolio management firm Two X Capital, told CNBC, adding that the chairman’s impending departure raises questions over the group’s commitment to making large, long-term investments.

Chandrasekaran is seen as the “professional successor” to the late Ratan Tata, who had appointed him, said Khare, adding that the lack of continuity implies there is a difference of opinion among the two power centers on the future direction of Tata Sons.

On Thursday, a day after Chandrasekaran gave up on another term as chairman, expressing displeasure at the delay in finalizing his reappointment for another five years, the process has formally begun to look for the 63-year-old’s replacement.

Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, part of the key trusts that together hold a 66% stake in Tata Sons, said in a statement that it “respects Mr. Chandrasekaran’s decision not to offer himself for re-appointment” and extends “full support to Tata Sons in ensuring a smooth, timely and orderly transition of leadership.”

Chandrasekaran, in his resignation letter on Wednesday, said the proposal to extend his term had been pending for six months and “was not carried through because one of the Board Members did not support it.” As per local media reports, he had disagreements…

The battery narrative largely focuses on electric vehicles (EVs) and electronics, but batteries also play a pivotal role in defense applications, a segment that is becoming key amid heightened geopolitical tensions.

From emergency response equipment and communications infrastructure to broader government applications, policymakers are increasingly prioritizing domestic battery output in an effort to strengthen industrial resilience.

That shift is creating a new demand driver for battery materials and accelerating investment across the value chain, particularly in North America and Europe, where governments are seeking to reduce dependence on China.

According to a 2023 report, a US soldier deployed for a 72 hour mission carries anywhere from 15 to 20 pounds of batteries, used to operate a variety of equipment, including radios, rifle scopes, night-vision goggles and GPS.

There are roughly 1.32 million active duty members in the US, which theoretically could require 19.8 million pounds of batteries. That does not include the batteries used in drones and other military applications.

Speaking with the Investing News Network (INN), Cormac O’Laoire, managing director of Electrios Consultants, said the conversation around batteries has changed dramatically over the past year, with governments placing greater emphasis on secure domestic supply chains. Previously, they were treated as low-priority commodities similar to household remote control batteries. However, they have recently taken on new life.

“Over the last 12 months, batteries have been classified as munitions, meaning ammunition,” he said.

“So batteries are right there next to bullets and missiles. And what does the army need? Munitions. They need a lot of it, but you usually can’t buy off your adversary,” the expert added.

O’Laoire went on to explain that the US Department of War has introduced programs alongside the National Defense Authorization Act to change how battery cells are sourced, explicitly banning procurement from China.

Unlike the EV industry, which uses terms like “foreign entity of concern,” the Department of War directly names China and prohibits sourcing cells or battery systems from the country between now and 2031.

Money is following the mandate. The Department of War’s Drone Dominance Program, a roughly US$1.1 billion initiative, aims to field more than 300,000 domestically produced attack drones by 2028 with no Chinese components.

O’Laoire calls it a “cash infusion” the battery sector badly needed. The pricing gap illustrates why — EV battery packs run around US$120 per kilowatt-hour, he noted, while comparable aerospace and defense-grade cells fetch roughly US$11,000 per kilowatt-hour. “Cost is secondary to mission success,” he said.

Those drones, along with car-sized unmanned aerial and marine vehicles, as well as the disposable first-person-view attack drones soldiers now fire, mostly run on nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistry rather than the lighter, cheaper…

Crude oil stockpiles in the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve have fallen below 300 million barrels, the lowest level in more than four decades, as global inventories stay under pressure due to the Iran war.

The SPR fell by 6.1 million barrels to 298.7 million barrels last week, according to data released by the Department of Energy on Monday. The reserve, created in 1975, is at its lowest level since January 1983.

President Donald Trump ordered the release of 172 million barrels in March after Iran choked off oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz, triggering the largest disruption of crude oil supplies in history.

The drawdown in the SPR, whose authorized storage capacity is 714 million barrels, has raised questions about whether U.S. government stockpiles are on the verge of depletion. The minimum amount of oil needed to safely operate the SPR is about 70 million barrels, an Energy Department spokesperson told CNBC in July.

There is enough oil left in the SPR to do another release if needed, said David Goldwyn, who served as a State Department special envoy for international energy affairs under President Barack Obama.

“I’m not worried about the stability of the reserve or our ability to do another drawdown, if we needed to,” Goldwyn told CNBC.

The SPR stood at around 415 million barrels before the U.S and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28. U.S. government stocks will fall to around 243 million barrels when the release Trump ordered is completed.

The SPR’s operational capability is at risk due to aging infrastructure, according to a May report from the Government Accountability Office. More than a quarter of its inventory was “not available for drawdown due to a combination of construction outages and cavern outages” as of December 2025, GAO investigators found.

That implied that a minimum of 103 million barrels in the SPR today are not available for use, according to a July analysis by Rapidan Energy.

“The SPR’s drawdown, distribution and fill capabilities are currently limited and are at risk going forward due to longstanding issues with aging infrastructure compounded with ongoing major construction intended to address them,” the GAO warned in the report.

U.S. presidents have ordered massive releases from the SPR with growing frequency in recent years. President Joe Biden deployed 180 million barrels to address energy market volatility after Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. That was the largest release in the history of the SPR.

The GAO described the release in response to the Ukraine war as an “unplanned stress test” for the SPR.

“When you do a drawdown, then you accelerate kind of the degradation of the wells themselves and some of the equipment,” Goldwyn said. “It’s like anything else — you use it a lot, you have to maintain it.”

The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve has fallen to the lowest level in more than 40 years as emergency stocks are released to help ease the supply disruption triggered by the Iran war.

The SPR stood at 340.3 million barrels as of June 12, the lowest level since the summer of 1983, according to data released Monday by the Department of Energy. The reserve fell nearly 9 million barrels week over week.

The deal that the U.S. and Iran are set to sign on Friday to reopen the Strait of Hormuz comes as oil executives have warned that global inventories are rapidly depleting to critical levels.

“We’re approaching unheard of inventory levels,” Exxon senior vice president Neil Chapman said May 28 at a conference hosted by Bernstein in New York. Chapman warned at the time that oil prices would spike as inventories fall while summer fuel demand is set to peak.

Inventories will continue to decline even after the U.S.-Iran deal is implemented as it will likely take weeks to months for oil flows through Hormuz to normalize.

“We still have inventory draws. Those are inexorable and they’re already at historic lows,” said Bob McNally, president of consulting firm Rapidan Energy. “We don’t think we’re out of the woods in terms of upper pressure on prices”

The U.S. agreed in early March to release 172 million barrels from the reserve. It was part of a coordinated release of 400 million barrels by the members of the International Energy Agency, the largest such intervention in the organization’s history.

“The U.S. is the supplier of last resort,” said Matt Smith, director of commodity research at Kpler. “Everybody’s coming to the U.S. to pull barrels out of it because there’s not the availability elsewhere.”

President Donald Trump repeatedly slammed the Biden administration for releasing barrels from the SPR after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The SPR hit a Biden-era low of around 346 million barrels in July 2023.

The company, which starts trading on Friday, has a business that doesn’t cleanly fit into the categories investors usually use. Elon Musk’s space firm isn’t just a rocket company, or satellite internet company, or traditional defense contractor.

The better way to understand SpaceX may be as private geopolitical infrastructure: A company with products that are embedded in how governments, militaries, airlines, remote communities and AI workloads operate.

That is the core of the “strategic tech” premium. The combination of hyper growth, national importance and light regulation is rarely seen in the same company at the same time.

In its IPO filing, SpaceX said it was the primary launch provider for the U.S. government in 2025, launching 11 of 12 National Security Space Launch medium and heavy-lift missions and all five U.S. crew and cargo missions to the International Space Station for NASA. Roughly one-fifth of its 2025 revenue came from U.S. federal government agencies.

A traditional valuation can miss that kind of essential role in government operations.

A normal tech company is valuable because customers choose it. A strategic tech company becomes more valuable because customers may have trouble replacing it.

SpaceX already operates 10,000 Starlink broadband and mobile satellites in low-Earth orbit, which it says accounted for about 75% of all active maneuverable satellites in orbit as of March 31. Starlink had 10.3 million subscribers at that point, more than double the 5 million it had a year earlier.

The bull case is not just that SpaceX can sell more satellite internet subscriptions. It’s that more of the world’s communications, defense, disaster response, aviation, maritime and space infrastructure could start to depend on the network.

But SpaceX is different from the defense giants it is often compared with.

Musk’s space company sits somewhere between defense, tech and infrastructure. It has government importance, but also has a large commercial business. Defense exposure, but not the same mature defense-contractor valuation. Infrastructure characteristics, but not utility-style regulation.

Lockheed Martin, RTX, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics and L3Harris are indispensable to U.S. national security, but the upside for those stocks is shaped by the Pentagon. Most of their revenue comes from government contracts, where pricing, costs and profits are subject to procurement rules and oversight.

For now, SpaceX gets the best of both worlds: The indispensability of a national security contractor with more of the pricing power and growth profile of a tech platform.

Public markets are already paying for a version of this in Palantir.

Palantir is part AI company, part defense contractor, part government operating system.
Activist investor Elliott Investment Management sharpened its attack against Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST,OTCPL:NESRF) on Wednesday (June 10), claiming that the Australian gold miner’s board fails to grasp the depth of its operational crisis and must immediately launch a formal strategic review.

The escalating dispute follows Northern Star’s earlier admission that it had previously received and dismissed multiple inbound acquisition approaches, as well as proposals from investment banks to spin off smaller assets.

The firm has rejected Elliott’s initial call for a sale process, stating that now is “not the right time” to pursue this action.

Elliott, which recently amassed a stake in Northern Star valued at more than AU$1 billion (US$716 million), argues that the board’s disclosures validate its case for a massive corporate overhaul.

“The Board’s letter indicates that it does not understand the magnitude of change required to win back shareholders’ trust, starting with significantly strengthening the Board itself,” Elliott states in a press release.

“The Board cannot simultaneously acknowledge inbound corporate interest, confirm its advisers have modeled structural options, and then decline to run any kind of formal process.”

In a letter to shareholders on the same day, Northern Star Chair Michael Chaney acknowledged the company’s share price underperformance, but pushed back on Elliott’s characterisation of the firm’s strategic direction.

He cited multibillion-dollar infrastructure investments that he said position the company for long-term resilience, including the Fimiston processing plant and the development of the Hemi deposit in the Pilbara region.

“We are always open to serious approaches from outside parties and you will not be surprised to learn that given our share price underperformance, over the last year Northern Star has been approached by several companies about considering various corporate combinations,” Chaney states in the document.

“Those discussions did not proceed because they were not in shareholders’ best interests.”

Chaney added that the board of Northern Star is actively recruiting a new managing director and CEO to replace the outgoing Stu Tonkin. He also signalled a willingness to expand the board, noting that the company would be “pleased to consider any candidate that they might have in mind who would complement the Board.”

Elliott rejected the idea that a single, handpicked director would suffice, calling for a “substantially strengthened” board capable of executing a credible transition. The American firm further insisted that a sweeping strategic review, including a potential sale, must be conducted alongside the CEO search.

Northern Star warned in March that achieving the lower end of its 2026 fiscal year production guidance would be challenging following a series of operational headwinds at its Kalgoorlie operations.

Rep. Nick Begich, R-Alaska, introduced legislation Thursday to permanently establish a U.S. strategic bitcoin reserve, unveiling the American Reserve Modernization Act (ARMA) — a bill designed to codify President Donald Trump’s March 2025 executive order and give the reserve a durable legal foundation in statute.

The measure, which has garnered bipartisan support and more than a dozen co-sponsors in Congress, would task the Treasury Department with overseeing the reserve while creating a separate digital asset stockpile for federally held cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin. Begich drew a direct comparison between bitcoin and gold, arguing the market has already determined both assets as the dominant stores of value in their respective classes.

“When you look at gold, it is the dominant precious metal reserve,” Begich told Fox Business. “When you look at bitcoin, it represents about 60% of all market cap for the entire crypto space. So the market has decided, in the case of gold and in the case of bitcoin, that this will be the predominant store of value within that asset class.”

ARMA builds on the earlier BITCOIN Act, which Begich originally introduced in March 2025 alongside Sen. Cynthia Lummis. The updated legislation would authorize the Treasury to acquire up to 200,000 BTC per year for five years — targeting a total of 1 million bitcoin, or roughly 5% of global supply — with all holdings locked for a minimum of 20 years.

The U.S. government currently holds an estimated 328,372 BTC accumulated through law enforcement seizures, including proceeds from the Silk Road takedown and the 2022 Bitfinex hack recovery.

The U.S. bitcoin handling needs to change

Co-sponsor Rep. Pat Harrigan, R-N.C., underscored the urgency of giving that existing stockpile a strategic home. “The United States government already holds billions in seized bitcoin with no coherent strategy for managing it, and that needs to change,” Harrigan said.

The bill’s introduction comes amid a broader wave of crypto-friendly legislative momentum in Washington. The Senate Banking Committee passed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in a 15-9 bipartisan vote on May 13, advancing a sweeping regulatory framework for the crypto industry to the full Senate floor.

Two Democrats — Senators Ruben Gallego of Arizona and Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland — crossed the aisle to support the measure. Sen. Lummis signaled the bill could reach a Senate floor vote by mid-June, though she cautioned that timeline may be optimistic.

The legislative push also arrives as the Treasury Department intensifies pressure on crypto-linked illicit finance.

The plan includes putting 36 billion euros toward the company’s massive portfolio of automotive brands, with 60% of the investment expected for North America. The company expects to introduce more than 60 new vehicles and conduct major refreshes of 50 models, including all-electric vehicles, hybrids and traditional internal combustion engines.

The other 24 billion euros will be put toward global vehicle platforms and new technologies for the automaker and its products, according to the company.

The company is targeting revenue growth across its major global operations through 2030. Most notably, it’s aiming for North American revenue growth of 25%, with adjusted operating income, or AOI, of between 8% and 10% in that period. It’s also targeting 15% revenue growth and AOI of between 3% and 5% for enlarged Europe. It expects double-digit revenue increases in South America, the Middle East and Africa, with an AOI of between 4% and 6% in Asia-Pacific.

Shares of Stellantis on the New York Stock Exchange were off roughly 7% in early trading Thursday.

Under the plan, Stellantis will not eliminate any of its 14 automotive brands, but it will fold operations of its DS and Lancia European units into Citroen and Fiat, respectively, according to the company.
