The semiconductor boom will last at least through 2027, South Korean finance minister Lee Hyoung-Il said on Saturday.

“For now, our view is that we can sustain this growth at least through next year,” Lee told CNBC on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok. “That’s because the gap between demand and supply for semiconductors is still very wide, and supply is still being expanded.”

His comments come after semiconductor stocks fell sharply this week, hurt by investor concerns about interest rate hikes and rising competition from Chinese companies. South Korean chip stocks like SK Hynix and Seoul Semiconductor were part of the sell-off, along with U.S. giants like Nvidia.

Chip stocks have fueled volatility in South Korea’s stock market this year, Lee said. He attributed the market’s wild swings to the semiconductor industry’s larger share of the economy than in other countries. Despite the market swings, South Korea’s economy is “solid,” Lee said.

On Thursday, an opinion column in Maeil Business Newspaper, a prominent South Korean publication, urged the country’s government to prepare for the coming slowdown in the artificial intelligence boom. The author said two experts expect a “flood of new supply” of semiconductors that will turn the memory market “into a red ocean” by 2029, according to a CNBC translation.

While South Korea’s semiconductors may be driving volatility in its stock market, the industry has also fueled tax growth. Lee said the country expects to collect more taxes than initially projected this year.

South Korea will ultimately be in a stronger fiscal position because of the chip boom, he added.

J.P. Morgan Asset Management is making a bullish call on an underinvested market group: high-quality fixed income.

Priya Misra, a portfolio manager at the firm, sees a once in a generation opportunity for investors.

“You can actually take credit risk in the highest quality companies and still get [a] 6.5% [yield], Misra told CNBC’s “ETF Edge” this week. “So, you actually don’t have to go down in credit [quality].”

She suggested the strategy is particularly well suited for investors concerned about having too much exposure to artificial intelligence stocks.

“There’s a huge AI exposure,” Misra said. “What fixed income gives you is this diversified set of returns. It’s not just an AI trade or a tech trade. You have the Treasury trade. You have credit outside of AI.”

Misra co-manages the JPMorgan Core Plus Bond Fund ETF (JCPB). The fund has almost $16 billion in assets under management, with just over three-quarters of its holdings in BBB-rated debt and above, according to the firm’s website as of Aug. 31.

“We’ve actually been increasing some of the double-B [and] single-B exposure because there has been a widening in high yield spread,” she said. “We like some investment grade. And now, we’ve started in the last few days to increase some duration as well, thinking we may be nearing the end of that rate move.”

The JPMorgan Core Plus Bond Fund ETF is down more than 5% so far this year as of Friday’s close, according to FactSet.

“You want to be looking bond by bond and sort of sector by sector to see where the macro and you have to do the bottom up as well to make sure that companies are not over levered,” noted Misra, who’s concerned about how higher rates could hurt the housing market.

BondBloxx co-founder Joanna Gallegos is also advising investors to take advantage of “historically attractive” yields across debt markets.

“You want to really consider getting some corporate debt into your portfolio,” Gallegos said in the same interview. “It’s really in the investor’s best interest to start looking at the income that’s back in fixed income. It can offset the volatility in your portfolio.”

Part of her bull case: Base rates are high, and they’re stable.

“The fundamentals of these corporations are so strong, and the economy continues to grow,” added Gallegos. “We really think that’s being lost in the narrative around Treasury rates.”

Her firm BondBloxx is known for fixed-income exchange-traded funds in sectors including Treasury, corporate, private credit and emerging markets.

One of its funds includes the BondBloxx Private Credit CLO ETF (PCMM). As of Friday’s close, it’s down 0.6% so far this year, according to FactSet.

Miami’s ultra-luxury property market is heating up as buyers pay cash and the likes of car maker Bugatti enter with branded developments.

Miami-Dade County, which includes some of the region’s best-known luxury markets such as Miami Beach and Sunny Isles Beach, recorded 194 home sales of $10 million or more in the first eight months of 2026, already 14.1% above the 170 transactions recorded during all of last year, according to the Miami Association of Realtors.

At the current pace, sales are projected to reach about 291 by year-end, surpassing the previous annual record of 230 set in 2021 during the pandemic-fueled homebuying frenzy, the association reported.

Miami tops the U.S. market for cash buyers, as per the association. About 82% of Miami condo sales valued at $1 million or more were all-cash transactions in 2025, the group said. UBS, which did an index of global housing markets, pointed to Miami’s high share of cash transactions as a key reason its luxury segment has remained resilient, reducing its sensitivity to elevated financing costs.

That contributed to lower bubble risk according to UBS, which found that Miami, which had the highest bubble risk in last year’s index, fell to “elevated” risk this year. The firm also pointed to continued demand from buyers relocating from higher-cost and higher-tax U.S. states as a factor supporting Miami housing values, saying a broad-based price correction appears unlikely in the near term.

Not all is rosy for the Florida city’s market, though. Inflation-adjusted home prices fell 1.6% year over year, as elevated borrowing costs and worsening affordability weighed on demand in non-luxury areas.

Still, the strength at the top end is also showing up even beyond home sales.

Bugatti last week announced plans for its first branded residential development in the U.S., on Miami’s Brickell waterfront, joining a growing roster of luxury auto brands putting their names on residences in the area.

The French luxury automaker joins a growing roster of high-end car brands putting their names on residential projects in the Miami area, including Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz.

Jay Roberts, CEO of Prosper Group, developer of the planned Bugatti Residences Miami, described the city as the “global epicenter for wealth migration.”

The war in Iran will likely end soon after November’s mid-term elections, President Donald Trump said Saturday, and predicted that energy prices would fall sharply once that happens.

“I think very soon, I think it’ll be right after the mid-terms, actually,” Trump said on a trip to Ireland when asked by reporters when the Iran war is likely to end. “I would say shortly, and oil will come tumbling down when that happens,”

Oil prices retreated on Friday, but notched sharp weekly gains after soaring above $100 a barrel for the first time in months.

Brent crude oil futures, the global benchmark, settled down 2.8% at $104.61 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate was down 2.4% to settle at $100.05 per barrel. On Thursday, Brent crude peaked at around $108 a barrel, while WTI hit more than $104.

The price decline came after Iranian state media said Tehran will meet with Gulf states in Oman to discuss the Strait of Hormuz, indicating some diplomacy is taking place despite a week of sharp escalation.

MS NOW quoted a senior government official and a Gulf diplomat as saying that Iranian and Gulf officials will meet in Oman’s capital, Muscat, on Monday to sign an agreement that will establish an Iran-Oman shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz.

But Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country will not surrender, adding that it has resisted aggression from the U.S. and Israel.

Pezeshkian’s comments ahead of the BRICS Summit in India over the weekend came on the heels of Trump’s assertion earlier this week that Iran would have wiped out Israel and the Middle East, and started hitting U.S. cities, if Washington had not taken military action against Iran.

“Well, I think they are. Probably, they are,” he said in response to a reporter’s question about the attack.

Saudi Arabia said Friday that it shut down the pipeline as a precautionary measure after multiple attacks by drones launched from Iraq.

Strong demand for AI server processors kept TSMC’s advanced 5-, 4- and 3-nanometer capacity fully booked during the quarter, the research firm said.

Samsung Foundry ranked second with a 5.9% share, followed by China’s SMIC at 5.4%.

The world’s top 10 foundries posted record combined revenue of nearly $53.49 billion in the second quarter, driven in part by supply constraints for advanced processes used in AI and high-performance computing processors.

Separately, TSMC and Dutch chip equipment giant ASML this week announced an initiative to advance the industry’s transition to next-generation chipmaking technology.

TSMC said it plans to use ASML’s High NA technology in large-scale manufacturing for advanced nodes starting in 2030, with adoption expected to increase as AI applications require more complex transistor architectures.

Global markets have shrugged off a barrage of shocks in recent years, but HSBC sees several developments that could eventually end that streak.

The key risks include higher corporate taxes, a renewed rise in private-sector debt and a shift in the relationship between stocks and bonds. A withdrawal of perceived central-bank support for markets could also test that resilience, the bank said in a note Monday.

While the “removal of central bank puts” could have an adverse impact, HSBC said, such a scenario is difficult to imagine, particularly in the U.S. where equities, wealth effects and financial conditions have become quite intertwined.

Given the outsized weight of the U.S. in global equities and credit, the greatest risks lie there, HSBC said. Higher corporate taxes that squeeze profitability could weigh on markets, while inflation falling close to or below target could restore the negative stock-bond correlation — rise in bond prices when stocks fall.

That, in turn, could encourage investors to reduce equity allocations and put pressure on valuations.

A renewed rise in private-sector leverage could also make the economy and markets more vulnerable to shocks, although HSBC noted that it is at multi-decade lows.

The risks stand out because markets have proven remarkably resilient to bad news in recent years, from surging inflation and tariffs to geopolitical conflicts, the unwinding of carry trades and private-credit concerns.

“It seems as if risk assets continue to ignore every negative catalyst,” HSBC strategists wrote.

The strategists described markets as “Teflon,” arguing that risk assets have remained remarkably resilient despite a long list of potential negative triggers over the past five years.

Deutsche Bank has also questioned how long that endurance can last. The bank said in a report Monday that risk assets have remained “consistently resilient” despite rising real rates and mounting inflation pressures, helped by surprisingly strong global growth.

“The current equilibrium is unsustainable … Risk assets like equities and credit are still strikingly complacent against the stagflationary shock that’s increasingly being priced into rates markets,” Deutsche Bank said.

Rates markets are still pricing only limited central-bank tightening despite mounting inflation pressures, while equities and credit are assuming higher yields will not materially damage growth, it said.

Behind market’s resilience

One key factor is the strength of corporate earnings and economic growth, particularly in the U.S., where consensus estimates have repeatedly underestimated earnings. That resilience has extended beyond technology and artificial intelligence, HSBC said, while U.S. corporate tax rates remain near multi-decade lows.

Another factor is the changing relationship between stocks and bonds. With government bonds no longer providing the same diversification against equity risk as they once did,…

Analysts believe that the successor’s profile could offer the bank re-rating potential, especially as the stock has been battered since the start of the year. As per LSEG data, shares of HDFC have tanked 27% since the start of the year compared with an 8% drop of the benchmark Nifty 50 index.

The next chief executive will need to accelerate growth, improve deposit mobilization and returns, and rebuild confidence around governance and senior-management stability, global brokerage Nomura said in a report on Sunday.

“A credible successor could become a meaningful rerating catalyst,” it said but added that the stock would “remain under pressure in the near term” until there is clarity on the next chief executive and the direction in which he will steer the bank.

This is the second time this year that the bank has been embroiled in a leadership crisis. In March, the bank’s part-time chair Atanu Chakraborty resigned after flagging governance and ethical concerns within the institution.

“Despite persuasion, Mr. Jagdishan reiterated his decision to not seek reappointment,” HDFC said in a release on Saturday, adding it will “fast-track the process for selection and appointment of his successor.”

Succession plan

Kaizad Bharucha, the deputy managing director of the bank, is the most likely internal choice to replace Jagdishan, Citi and Jefferies said in their latest reports.

Some of the other candidates named in the Jefferies report on Monday include Anup Bagchi, CEO ICICI Pru Life; Paresh Sukthankar, former deputy MD at HDFC Bank; Vibha Padalkar, chief executive of HDFC Life; and Amitabh Chaudhry, CEO, Axis Bank.

Jefferies, which continues to have a buy rating on HDFC Bank, said that the uncertainty over leadership “can lift cost of equity, leading to lower valuation” but said that after the share drop earlier this year the “risk-reward is balanced,” at a price-to-book ratio of 1.5 times.

Citi in its report on Sunday said that the new CEO needs to demonstrate strategic competence to deliver a credible path to scale up net interest margins and return on assets and a decisive growth trajectory with market share gain.

During Jagdishan’s tenure, HDFC Bank completed a $40 billion takeover of the country’s largest mortgage lender, the synergies from which are yet to be fully realized, as per analysts.

Every weekday, the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer holds a “Morning Meeting” livestream at 10:20 a.m. ET. Here’s a recap of Tuesday’s key moments. 1. Stocks fell Tuesday , pressured by the recent rise in Treasury yields amid concerns of persistent inflation and elevated oil prices. The 30-year Treasury yield climbed above 5.33%, a level not seen in nearly two decades, while West Texas Intermediate crude rose above $85 a barrel as U.S.-Iran negotiations remained stalled. Bond yields came off those highs and dipped slightly into the red in late-morning trading. But that move did little to help the S & P 500 , and especially the Nasdaq , pare their steep losses on the session. That’s why the Club is holding roughly 13% cash and remaining selective about putting money to work. “That 13% means we believe the market is going down,” Jim Cramer said. “We are not going to put money to work just because we’re going to be oversold. We’re looking for actual price breaks.” Club name Home Depot was one bright spot after reporting better-than-expected earnings and revenue Tuesday morning. Jim called the quarter “terrific” and said the results were especially encouraging given the difficult housing market. “If they can do this number in this environment, what do they do if we have a better environment?” he said. 2. Club holding TJX Companies reports earnings Wednesday morning, and Jim remains bullish on the off-price retailer behind T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods. He said management has historically issued conservative guidance and then delivered results near or above the high end of its outlook. Jim is particularly optimistic about HomeGoods, which he expects to remain a key growth driver. He also thinks TJX’s value-focused model could help the company continue taking market share as consumers remain selective with their spending. TJX has seen lots of ups and downs in 2026. The stock saw a record high close in June before backing off. Year to date, shares are relatively flat. 3. Meta shares fell 2.5% on Tuesday as opening arguments began in a California trial alleging that the company’s Facebook and Instagram platforms fostered addictive behavior in teens and children. Earlier this month, Meta lost a case in New Mexico, forcing the social media giant to change some of its services and pay almost $1 billion. Jim warned that litigation could remain an overhang on the Club stock. “They’re going to lose every trial,” Jim said. He thinks the case may eventually reach the Supreme Court, where broader legal protections for social media companies could be tested. Jim cautioned that the current case is unlikely to settle the issue for Meta. “It’s a very hot-button thing, and it won’t be the last decision.” 4. Stocks covered in Tuesday’s rapid-fire at the end of the video were: Klarna , Norwegian Cruise Line , Target , as well as Club names Costco and Micron . (Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust is long HD, META, TJX, COST, MU. See here for a full list of the…

Shares of Chinese ice cream and beverages chain Mixue Group fell more than 7% in Hong Kong on Friday, extending losses to a second straight session after the company reported a decline in first-half profit.

The stock closed 8.37% lower on Thursday, when Mixue reported that profit for the period fell 14.7% year on year to 2.32 billion yuan ($345.2 million) for the six months ended June. Revenue rose 2.3% to 15.22 billion yuan.

The company also proposed a special dividend of 2.65 yuan per share, subject to shareholder approval.

Mixue’s profitability came under pressure from rising costs and expenses.
