Crypto pundit Xaif has shared an aspect in which Vitalik Buterin admitted that XRP is ahead of Ethereum in. This comes as Ripple looks to dominate the payments industry using XRP, RLUSD, and the XRP Ledger. 

Vitalik Shares What Aspect XRP Leads Ethereum In

In an X post, Xaif shared a 2014 quote from Vitalik Buterin stating that Ripple, not Ethereum, is the Internet of Value. While Ethereum has focused on building a foundation for the decentralized financial system, Ripple has focused on building the Internet of Value using the Ledger, with XRP and RLUSD serving as important tools for this vision. 

Ethereum and Ripple have continued to reiterate their missions even as crypto continues to gain mainstream adoption. Earlier this year, Vitalik Buterin described Ethereum as the Linux of the decentralized world. He stated that they must ensure Ethereum serves as the financial home for individuals and organizations seeking greater autonomy. Buterin added that they must give people access to the power of the network without dependence on intermediaries. 

Meanwhile, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated in January that their two major acquisitions, Ripple Prime and GTreasury, greatly accelerate and expand their ability to deliver on their vision of enabling the Internet of Value. He added that the token has been and will continue to be the heartbeat of that vision. 

More recently, Garlinghouse described the token as Ripple’s “North Star,” which guides their mission and daily operations. Xaif also shared a video in which the Ripple CEO stated that they are 100% committed to making XRP the “most trusted, most useful, and most liquid digital asset on the planet.”

It is worth noting that XRP currently ranks as the fifth largest crypto by market cap, behind Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and BNB. The altcoin regained the third spot this year, just behind Ethereum, after beginning the year as one of the largest gainers, but it has since lost these gains amid the crypto market downtrend. 

The Ledger Behind Ethereum In This Regard

RWA.xyz data shows that the XRP Ledger is currently behind Ethereum in tokenization. The total tokenized value on Ethereum is $15.5 billion, while the Ledger has a total tokenized value of $1.9 billion. However, the Ledger has achieved greater growth over the last 30 days, with tokenized value rising 15%, while that on Ethereum has risen just over 10%. 

The Ledger has notably seen upgrades, such as the Permissioned DEX, which have contributed to tokenization growth on the network. The Permissioned DEX enables institutional investors to trade in a regulated environment. Ripple continues to partner with institutions to tokenize several funds on the network. Last month, the crypto firm partnered with U.K. giant Aviva Investors to develop tokenized versions of traditional funds.

A lively discussion about XRP’s true purpose and utility erupted on X after prominent crypto analyst Scott Melker posed a sincere question to his 1 million followers: what exactly is the current pitch for XRP? The token itself, not Ripple the company.

His inquiry attracted different responses from both supporters and industry commentators on detailed explanations of how the XRP Ledger functions and what role XRP plays within it. How The XRP Ledger Works And The Role Of Rippling

In his detailed response, crypto commentator Santiago Velez explained that XRP serves several foundational functions within the Ledger. At its core, the Ledger uses the token to prevent spam and distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks. Each transaction carries a small fee denominated in XRP to deter network abuse. 

However, its utility extends far beyond that technical safeguard. Velez also noted that XRP was designed to facilitate a process known as rippling, which allows users to exchange equivalent tokens under the same currency code through an intermediary account. 

This mechanism was central to the Ledger’s early design and was part of the system’s built-in decentralized exchange (DEX), the first of its kind in crypto history. As such, the token operates as a bridge currency that allows easy inter-currency pathfinding without relying on intermediaries or centralized issuers. According to Velez, no other large Layer-1 blockchain is built with this specific function in mind, apart from Stellar, which originated as a fork of XRP.

Questions On The Long-Term Value Of The Altcoin

After receiving the explanation, Melker acknowledged the Ledger’s technical sophistication, calling it an elegant and forward-thinking design that was far ahead of its time. He praised its built-in features, such as the anti-spam mechanism, native DEX, and neutral bridge function, noting that these innovations solved real-world problems in settlement and cross-border payments long before many of today’s leading blockchains were created. 

However, Melker posed another question about the token’s long-term economic sustainability: whether these design strengths translate into lasting demand for the token itself. He pointed out that while the ledger’s features serve technical purposes, they do not necessarily guarantee consistent price appreciation. 

In his view, spam prevention does not generate token demand. Pathfinding may bypass the altcoin in some cases, and stablecoins’ stability and simplicity have become more appealing to institutions than XRP.  This opens the question of whether it is adopted anywhere near the scale that it’s being promoted.

The analyst sees Ripple’s announcement as proof that XRP is evolving far beyond its original role as a cross-border payment currency. 

According to him, this new merger positions XRP at the centre of institutional capital movement, powering everything from currency swaps to investments, deposits, and more. He noted that the connection between XRP and institutional liquidity is now more solid than ever. Hidden Road’s involvement, which clears over $3 trillion annually, also provides the essential infrastructure needed to bring all the pieces together.   

Notably, Garlinghouse confirmed the GTreasury deal in an announcement on X, calling it the gateway into a $120 trillion corporate treasury payment market still dominated by outdated systems. He explained that legacy payment infrastructure tends to trap enormous amounts of corporate capital, stifling financial innovation, and this recent acquisition is designed to unlock said trapped liquidity. 

Furthermore, the Ripple CEO noted that GTreasury has been a long-time partner to some of the world’s biggest brands, and now aims to enhance corporate treasury operations by leveraging Ripple’s blockchain expertise to help CFOs integrate stablecoins, tokenized deposits, digital assets, etc. 

Hidden Road’s Role In Ripple’s Next Growth Phase

In an official press release, Ripple outlined its long-term vision for bringing digital assets into corporate treasury management.
