Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread further, his son Hunter Biden said in a BBC interview, offering a stark update on the 83-year-old’s health.

“It’s really, really hard, and it’s really sad to watch… I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good,” Hunter Biden said in the interview. “The cancer has spread, is metastasized into his bones and further. It’s very painful. It’s very debilitating in many respects, but he’s still out there. He’s still doing his thing… he so believes in this country.”

Joe Biden was diagnosed in May 2025 with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The former president later underwent hormone treatment and a course of radiation therapy.

In the wide-ranging BBC interview, Hunter Biden also discussed his father’s decision to pardon him in the final weeks of his presidency, saying he remains deeply grateful for the move.

“I am the most privileged person, as it relates to that, that there could possibly be,” Hunter Biden said. “I was one of one, and I’m eternally grateful for it.”

Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon to his son in December 2024, reversing earlier pledges that he would not use his presidential powers to intervene in Hunter Biden’s federal criminal cases. The pardon covered his convictions on federal gun and tax charges.

Since partnering with Sperry in April to sell select apparel and footwear styles from the brand online and in stores, Abercrombie has expanded and is now offering shoes from Puma, Frye, Hunter and GH Bass.

For now, the only place Abercrombie is offering all of the brands together is at its new 10,000-square-foot outpost in New York City where they launched for the first time this month. If the release performs well, the company could expand the full range of brands to more stores and online in the future. Currently, the only outside brands Abercrombie is selling online are Puma and Sperry.

“Our high-value customers, how do we make sure that we’re outfitting them across all of their needs? And this is a place that they can come for those things, but also a new point of discovery for a consumer that we haven’t potentially acquired yet,” said Worth. “So someone that could be looking for Puma or Frye, they come in … they’re excited to see these offerings, they purchase one of these, as well as an outfit from us, and that’s the goal in terms of how we’re looking to bring it all together.”

Abercrombie said it decided to launch outside footwear brands as customers ask for more from the apparel retailer. For example, the company said one of the most frequent questions customers ask on its social media channels is “Where can I buy those shoes?”

Abercrombie’s move into outside brands marks a modern first for the 134-year-old company, which has long exclusively sold its own products in stores but is finding it harder to generate organic growth, expand its customer base and compete in a crowded apparel market.

“This is a strategic move on their part to bring in a like-minded customer,” said Stichter. “A customer who has potential to shop the brand, maybe isn’t already, and now will be introduced to the brand that way.”

Category expansion overall will be key to the retailer’s next chapter of growth, and blending a mix of Abercrombie-designed accessories with external footwear brands will allow the company to offer its customers more options in a cost-effective, simple way, said Stichter.

It was a bumpy week for gold and silver prices, which took a break from responding to geopolitical tensions to react to the latest US Federal Reserve interest rate decision.

As was widely expected, the central bank left rates unchanged at 3.5 to 3.75 percent. However, the move came with the highest number of dissents since 1992.

Gold finished the week at about US$4,615 per ounce, down from nearly US$4,700 at the start of the period; silver fared better, closing at US$75.27 per ounce, not far from where it began.

Attracting more attention that rates was the Fed leadership transition. Jerome Powell’s term as chair expires on May 15, meaning that this week’s meeting was likely his last in the position.

While there’s been some uncertainty about whether nominee Kevin Warsh will be okayed to take over, this week he was voted through by the Senate Banking Committee. Now all that’s left is for the Senate to approve him. That’s expected to happen the week of May 11.

But even if that goes smoothly, Powell won’t be out of the picture quite yet.

He said this week that he plans to retain his position on the Fed’s board, marking the first time a chair has stayed on the board as a governor since 1948.

Powell’s decision stems from concerns about Fed independence. US President Donald Trump has been critical of the central bank, and Powell in particular, for not lowering rates as quickly as he would like — Trump has implied that Warsh will fall in line with what he wants.

Powell has also been facing a Department of Justice criminal investigation that he believes was motivated by rate decisions. Although it was dropped this week, he indicated that he won’t leave his Fed board position until it is “well and truly over with finality and transparency.”

These circumstances are raising questions about what Warsh will really be like as Fed chair, and the experts I spoke to this week were keen to share their thoughts.

Lynette Zang of Zang International said she’s skeptical about how much will change:

“I was listening to Kevin Warsh in front of the Senate Banking Committee, and he said that he had a different definition for price stability. And so my ears perked up, right? Because the current definition of central bank price stability is inflation moving slow enough that the public does not change their spending patterns. Rather, they simply take on more debt to attempt to sustain their standard of living.

“So when he said, ‘I have a different definition,’ I was very keen on, what is that definition? And what he said was, ‘That prices move slowly enough that people don’t notice.’ It seems like the same definition to me.”

Gareth Soloway of VerifiedInvesting.com also weighed in on comments Warsh has made, saying his thoughts on how to measure inflation are worrying:

“When he was testifying in front of Congress for his confirmation hearing, he (talked) about changing the way inflation is is monitored, or how the numbers come out. In other words, what he was saying is that what ……
