President Donald Trump on Monday said he’s calling on the Senate to pass cryptocurrency legislation known as the Clarity Act to honor the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who died at 71 over the weekend.

“In honor of Senator Lindsey Graham, a big supporter, the U.S. Senate should pass the Clarity Act,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “China, and many other countries, would like to take complete and total control of this major financial ‘happening,’ as well as A.I., where we are now leading, but where they are fighting hard. Don’t let China win on either subject!!!”

The Clarity Act is one of the first wide-ranging pieces of legislation to regulate cryptocurrencies, and is backed by the crypto industry and the White House. It has hit some snags in the Senate, with Democrats pushing for increased ethics guardrails for elected officials like Trump, who has made billions of dollars on digital currencies.

The Senate Banking Committee approved the bill 15-9 in May, with two Democrats joining Republicans to advance the legislation. Graham did not serve on the Banking Committee, so he didn’t cast one of the votes.

Graham was also not a particularly key figure in crypto policy debates and was not a primary player in the Clarity Act. The bill has primarily been led in the Senate by Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., and Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo.

Other senators have proposed passing a Russia sanctions package in honor of Graham, which he and his colleagues got White House approval to move forward with last week. Graham was heavily involved in national security issues and international affairs and had just returned from a trip to Ukraine the day he died.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., said there “can be no more fitting memorial to Lindsey, his legacy, or the causes he fought for, than to pass this legislation and realize his long-held dream of an independent and secure Ukraine.”

Crypto players including Coinbase, Circle and Ripple have supported the Clarity Act, hoping regulation of the industry will encourage investors.

Banks, however, opposed the bill, warning it could allow crypto groups to offer interest-like payments to stablecoin holders and lead to decreased bank deposits and a lack of capital for loans. Law enforcement and some labor groups also have opposed the measure.

Graham’s death could complicate Senate passage of the measure, as it narrows the already thin Senate Republican majority to 52-47.

U.S. President Donald Trump repealed tariffs on a key U.K. export on Thursday, after a state visit from King Charles III and Queen Camilla appeared to help mend transatlantic relations dampened by a series of political standoffs.

“In Honor of the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, who have just left the White House, soon headed back to their wonderful Country, I will be removing the Tariffs and Restrictions on Whiskey having to do with Scotland’s ability to work with the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Whiskey and Bourbon, two very important Industries within Scotland and Kentucky,” the president said in a Thursday Truth Social post.

“People have wanted to do this for a long time, in that there had been great Inter-Country Trade, especially having to do with the Wooden Barrels used. The King and Queen got me to do something that nobody else was able to do, without hardly even asking!” he added.

Trump later told reporters that he “took all the restrictions off, so Scotland and Kentucky can start dealing again.”

“And I did it in honor of the King and Queen who just left,” he said.

The U.K. government confirmed to CNBC on Friday that the changes announced the previous day would apply to all whisky tariffs, including those on Irish whiskey.

Last year, the U.K. became the first country in the world to secure a trade deal with the Trump administration after the president’s so-called liberation day tariffs were unveiled. The terms of the U.K.’s deal included a 10% blanket tariff on goods imported to the United States.

That meant a pre-existing zero-tariff trade environment for exporters on both sides of the Atlantic was overridden, slapping new duties onto Scotch whisky and other spirits sent to America from Britain.

The Scotch whisky industry employs around 40,000 people in Scotland, where whisky accounted for 23% of all goods exports in 2025. The sector is also a major purchaser of used bourbon barrels from the United States.

Officials from the Scottish and U.K. governments had lobbied for a return to the zero-for-zero tariff conditions on spirit exports, which the Scotch Whisky Association said in September was costing its members £4 million ($5.44 million) per week in lost exports.

President Donald Trump on Monday said he thinks he will have the “honor” of “taking Cuba,” speaking during an executive order signing at the White House.

“Whether I free it, take it, I think I can do anything I want with it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office with Vice President JD Vance standing behind him. “They’re a very weakened nation right now.”

The president’s comments on taking Cuba come as he carries out a war in Iran that is stretching into its third week. Trump has encouraged the people of Iran to depose their government in that conflict, one of a litany of reasons he has given for starting the war.

Trump recently suggested he will turn his sights to Cuba after the U.S. achieves its aims in Iran. He has threatened a “friendly takeover” of the Caribbean nation, which has been an adversary of the U.S. for decades except for a brief thaw when Barack Obama was president.

The Cuba threats are the latest example of Trump’s more aggressive foreign policy during his second term in the White House. In addition to the war in Iran, Trump ordered a military operation that captured the Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and has made repeated overtures to acquire Greenland, the Arctic island territory of Denmark. Denmark has repeatedly said Greenland is not for sale.

The White House has effectively blockaded Havana from Venezuelan oil after Maduro’s capture. That has caused an energy and economic crisis in the island country.

Cuba confirmed it was speaking with the Trump administration about a potential solution last week. Trump also confirmed the talks on Monday.

“I can tell you that they’re talking to us; it’s a failed nation, they have no oil, they have no nothing,” Trump said. “They have nice land.”

Honor on Sunday showed off the capabilities of its Robot Phone as the Chinese electronics firm looks to stand out from some of its bigger rivals like Samsung and Apple.

The company, which spun off from Huawei in 2020, also launched the Magic V6, its latest foldable smartphone, as part of its event at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday. In addition, Honor teased a humanoid robot, but with very few details.

The releases come against the backdrop of the ongoing shortage and unprecedented price surge of memory chips, which is expected to see device makers increase prices and strain demand for smartphones in 2026.

Honor first teased the Robot Phone in October. It features a camera on a robotic arm that pops out of the main body of the device. For those into video work, it looks like it’s inspired by the Osmo product line from Chinese dronemaker DJI.

The camera, which is powered by a small motor, can lock onto an object or person and track it as it moves. A user can talk to Honor’s AI assistant, and the camera can then respond with a yes or no answer by nodding.

Honor said it aims to make the phone commercially available in China in the second half of the year.

The Robot Phone shows how companies like Honor are looking to stand out in a sea of similar-looking smartphones and give users a compelling enough reason to upgrade or switch from their current device.

The device is expected to be expensive and continues Honor’s push into the high-end area of the market where it is looking to challenge the likes of Samsung and Apple, particularly in overseas markets like Europe.

In China, Honor ended the year as the sixth-biggest smartphone player with a market share of just over 13%, according to Counterpoint Research. But it’s a much smaller player overseas, where it is trying to establish a brand presence. Its market share in Europe in 2025 was 3%, according to Omdia research.

Honor entered the list of the top five biggest players in the region for the first time at the end of the year, though its gains have been fueled largely by sales of its lower-priced devices.

Francisco Jeronimo, a vice president for data and analytics at IDC, told CNBC the launch was more of a “marketing push” to create a buzz around the brand as it looks to build market share outside of China.

“There is some novelty to it and they need that kind of innovation to show their capabilities,” Jeronimo said. “It will drive everyone’s attention. Whether it translates to sales when they launch it, it will be a hard sell, especially if it is a high price or bulky phone.”
