Mondi PLC expects to report double-digit improvement in its 2018 earnings

In a brief trading update, the FTSE 100-listed packaging firm said it expects its underlying earnings (EBITDA) for 2018 to be “above that” generated in 2017, which had been €1.48bn.

The group, which is currently dual-listed in Johannesburg and London, added that it expects to recognise special item net charges after tax of €92mln for 2018, up from the €53mln booked in 2017, with €81mln of that figure recognised in the first half.

Mondi said it expects its 2018 basic underlying earnings per share to be between 186 to 192 euro cents in 2018, up by 29% than the 148.9 euro cents recorded in 2017.

The group plans to release its annual results on February 28.

In early morning trading, shares in Mondi were flat at 1,897.50p.
