Trump Media advisor Katie Zacharia offered White House press secretary role

White House picks Katie Zacharia as new press secretary

The White House has tapped Katie Zacharia, a lawyer and conservative commentator who works for Trump Media & Technology Group, to be its next press secretary, a White House official confirmed to CNBC.

Zacharia, a self-described “hardline Trump supporter,” has been offered the role, the official said on condition of anonymity to discuss the hiring announcement. It was not immediately clear if she has accepted the offer.

If she takes the job, Zacharia will succeed Karoline Leavitt, who left the Trump administration in late August. Leavitt, who went on maternity leave after giving birth to her second child earlier this year, will join Fox News as an on-air contributor in November.

The New York Times first reported the White House’s pick of Zacharia.

Zacharia has worked since June as a senior communications advisor for Trump Media, owner of the president’s preferred social media outlet, Truth Social, according to her LinkedIn profile.

The profile also shows her currently serving as general counsel at Fix California, a conservative activist group founded by Richard Grenell, Trump’s special presidential envoy for special missions and former head of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Zacharia in March finished a two-month stint as a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, her LinkedIn page shows.

An IMDb page for Zacharia shows dozens of appearances on a number of political talk shows airing on Fox News and other conservative outlets.
