Government unveils plans for EPC C standards in rental homes by 2030
The government has confirmed plans to raise minimum energy efficiency standards for rental properties by 2030.
The Energy Secretary has committed to consulting on these plans by the end of the year.
The focus is on improving energy performance in both private and social rented properties.
The decision comes as many families face high energy bills and rising living costs.
Some tenants continue to live in homes that are cold, draughty, and expensive to heat.
At present, private rentals must meet Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) level E, while there are no minimum standards for social housing.
The upcoming consultation will look at raising this requirement to EPC level C or its equivalent by 2030.
