Taylor Wimpey PLC sees resurgence of bookings as sales centres reopen

PLC (), the housebuilder, said it has seen a threefold increase in bookings since its sales centres reopened following the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Most sales centres in England are now open, it added, while it hopes it can reopen in Scotland and Wales from early July. Construction has also resumed at nearly all sites bar Scotland, the FTSE 100-listed firm said.

In an update,  revealed it has also seen orders improve with the net sales rate rising to 0.51 for the week ending May 31, 2020, although this is still well below the 0.85 level seen this time a year ago.

UK orders at the end of May £2.78bn, up from £2.52bn a year ago and the equivalent of 11,228 homes (10,557).

noted the coronavirus crisis has also thrown up opportunities to increase its landbank and it is looking again at sites across the country, having put acquisitions on temporary hold when the lockdowns came in to force.

The housebuilder also said it had seen strong interest in its care worker discount scheme that offers a 5% discount to the purchase price of a new home that will legally complete in 2020 or 2021.
